We are really excited about the new introductions for the 2010-2012-2011 season. And we are pleased to offer this year some old favorites that we have not grown before.

HYBRID RHODODENDRONS

Rhododendron is one of the most interesting genus of plants. They are found in almost every state and are tall and short, upright and spreading, evergreen and deciduous, and flower in every color of the rainbow, predominantly in the Spring and early Summer. Planting tips are here.

Rhododendron 'Abbey's Re-View'
(PJM Hybrid)
Floriferous in Spring AND Fall with pinkish-lavender flowers, evergreen, thrives in our Southern heat and humidity in part sun to shade, vigorous and with natural pest resistance - what more could you ask for? An Abbey View Farm-Transplant Nursery introduction that will join the Garden Debut® line in 2011.

Light pink buds open white with a large purple blotch. Dense habit with dark green, recurved leaves. Bred for heat and humidity tolerance. Part of the Southgare™ Rhododendron Series from the Southern Living™ Plant Collection and will be introduced in 2011.

  NEW Rhododendron 'Calsap'
(R. 'Catagla x R. 'Sappho')
Beautiful huge flower truss that is white with a bold, dark purple flare on the upper lobe. Super hardy.

  NEW Rhododendron 'Purple Passion' PP9981
('Purple Splendor' x 'Catalgla')
A beautiful dark purple bloom with a white flare on the upper lobe. Leaves are deep green.

NEW Rhododendron 'Scintillation'
(Dexter hybrid)
Perfectly rounded, well formed plant will be covered in lavender-pink blossoms with golden-brownish throats. Very dependable and one of the best.

NEW Rhododendron 'Sir Robert Peel'
(Rhododendron arboreum hybrid ?)
Plants have very long, narrow leaves, with a bloom that is rose-red. A very vigorous grower that blooms early.

DECIDUOUS AZALEAS
All azaleas are in the Rhododendron genus. They differ by various morphological traits that are wildly interesting to us as hybridizers, but may or may not be of interest to you. (See our page of Resources here, if you'd like more information.) These are mostly natives or hybrids of natives and they lose their leaves in the Winter.

Knap Hill Hybrid
Deciduous azalea. Flame orange flowers with ruffled petals. By far the most heat tolerent and vigorous of the Knap Hill group. Often listed as Exbury.
Zone 5. H 6 to 8'. Blooms Mid April.

(Knap Hill Hybrid)
Deciduous azalea. Flowers are a beautiful scarlet red that bloom in late Spring.

White shaded delicate pink. Miniature, semi-double to peony form with loose petals and delicate petaloids Slow, spreading growth habit.

Double flower is bright rose-red, rather formal. The plant is low and compact and is a delight in all seasons.

Beautiful blue-green color is maintained in colder weather. The small needles and branches shoot upwards and toward the center of the plant, naturally creating a full, dense pyramid. Derived from a witch's-broom found in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Duke University, it is a Plant Introductions, Inc. introduction and royalties are shared with Duke Gardens. Full sun to part shade, moist but well drained acidic soil recommended. Evergreen.

  NEW Gardenia augusta 'Frostproof''
A fragrant double white flower blooms in Summer. COmpact growth habit with lance-shaped evergreen foliage that is slightly larger than 'Radicans'. Winner of the 2007 Garden Writers Best Plants Award.

(Hydrangea arborescens 'PIIHA-1' PPAF)
This rich magenta-pink mophead is a breakthrough for H. arborescens! Not only is it the first true pink 'Annabelle', but it will re-bloom all Summer. Dark green foliage on strong stems. Full sun to part shade.
Zone 4. H 4' to 5', W 3' to 4'.

  NEW Ilex glabra 'Nigra'
Broadleaved evergreen that is 3 feet by 6 feet. Dark green foliage, heaviest fruiter (black) and fullest to the ground of any inkberry. Tolerates shade and moist soils. Georgia native. Georgia Gold Medal Winner.

  NEW Illicium parviflorum 'Florida Sunshine'
This small shrub grow about 5 feet tall. It has golden yellow foliage in the Summer turning bright yellow in the Fall.

  NEW Kalmia latifolia 'Keepsake'
The buds are raspberry-red and open to a solid purplish-burgandy with an attractive white adge. Outstanding foliage with very glossy, deep green leaves.

  NEW Kalmia latifolia 'Minuet'
Pale pink buds open to a broad ring of bright cinnamon red in the interior. It is a wonderful dwarf, compact plant that seldom reaches 3 feet high.

  NEW Kalmia latifolia 'Olympic Fire'
One of the original red-budded Kalmia selections. Strong red buds turn to strong pink as they open. Good grower.

Red in bud, opens to very dark pink flowers. Excellent foliage.

  NEW Mahonia x media 'Winter Sun'
This medium sized evergreen shrub has leaves that are pinnatwe, glossy, spiny and think. Blooms are a cheerful bright yellow in late Winter to early Spring, followed by berries that turn robin's-egg-blue. Part sun to shade.

  NEW Pieris japonica 'Compacta'
Compact plant with small leaves. This plant is a heavy bloomer with white flowers.

Bright glossy leaves with deep wine-red new growth. Blooms late Spring with rose colored racemes. This is the plant that will replace 'Mountain Fire' - better color, better heat tolerence, better grower. A Plant Haven introduction.

  NEW Pieris japonica 'Red Mill'
New leaves are bright red, turning mahagony and then dark green. Flowers are white and last longer than 'Mountain Fire'.

Rich maroon flower buds that open to a deep rose-pink flower. Dark green foliage on a dense, upright plant.

Rounded, bushy, shade-loving plant with elliptic, pointed glossy dark green leaves. Blooms early Spring with small with flowers that are very fragraant. Evergreen. Drought and shade tolerent.

  NEW Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald Green' (Arborvitae)
Pyramidal arborvitae reaching 10 to 15 feet high with a spread of 3 to 4 feet. Compact tree with bright, lustrous deep green foliage. Excellent screen or windbreak.
